Private Counselling Service

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS COUNSELLING
Counselling is the contracted meeting between a trained counsellor and a client. Counselling takes place on a weekly basis on an agreed day and time in a safe and confidential space.
Sessions are 50 minutes each week.

'Counselling' and 'therapy' are often used interchangeably. A counsellor is able to walk alongside a client in their frame of reference and with no judgment on what the client brings to their sessions. It provides an environment in which the client can be themselves and be accepted and heard.

People often worry about what to bring to their counselling sessions, however, I have found that often stepping into the therapeutic space on a regular basis helps a client to access the issues that need to be discussed and can lead to growth and change in the areas that need it.
WHAT RECENTRE THERAPY IS NOT
Recentre Therapy is not an emergency crisis line for severe mental health issues and clients who suffer with psychosis and are under treatment from a psychiatrist or other mental health service.

If you do not disclose this in the initial consultation and it becomes apparent in the sessions, it will mean that sessions will need to be terminated with immediate effect and your GP or other mental health provider will be informed.
CANCELLATION POLICY
In Private Practice, more than 90% of lost income is due to cancellations, and no-shows. I therefore ask that clients feel able to communicate with me as soon as they can to let me know if they need to cancel or reschedule a session.
I understand and respect clients are accessing therapy because life is difficult currently, and I do not want to add to the stresses with rigid policies, but I do want to ensure I am able to sustain my work in an ethical and fair way and allocate sessions not utilised to new clients.

I ask for 24 hours' notice of an absence and will always try to reschedule a missed session if possible. For less than 24 hours' notice or failure to attend without notice, the full session fee will be due before another session is booked.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE
The length of time therapy takes is very individual. Sometimes people feel the need just to have someone to talk through a difficult issue and only need a few sessions. If there are more complex issues the work takes longer and it can be difficult to put a time frame on it.

Generally, I have found that clients often come between three, six or twelve months. Some people also access therapy for several years as a part of their self-care and to help maintain their mental health.
